Roxy’s Back…and heading to Woodchuck’s BBQ in Point Pleasant, NJ for Dinner

Posted by: Roxy - Print This Post Print This Post

I stepped away from blogging for at least 5 years (maybe 10), and one of these days I’ll catch you up on everything, but today I’ll start with dinner in Pt Pleasant Beach, NJ.  London and Maddie are high school softball players.  They’ll play 3 games this afternoon with their travel softball team, and then we’re taking Rex out for a birthday dinner at It’s our first time there, but we needed a quick replacement for Famous Dave’s in Brick, which shut down forever while I wasn’t looking (or supporting them on a regular basis by eating baby back ribs), so I’ll report back after dinner.

Roxy’s Restaurant Week at the Jersey Shore

Posted by: Roxy - Print This Post Print This Post

As many of my loyal Roxiticus Desperate Housewives and Roxy’s Best Of… readers know, every year our family spends the last week of June at our beach house in Bay Head, NJ, to celebrate Rex’s birthday.  Since Rex does all of the cooking in our family, we like to give him the week off from cooking and go out to our favorite local Jersey Shore restaurants.  This year, we celebrated at all of the following:

  • Shipwrecked in Brielle, NJ
  • Hoffman’s Ice Cream in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ
  • NEW! Daniel’s in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ
  • Theresa’s South in Bay Head, NJ
  • NEW! Remington’s in Manasquan, NJ (replacing Mahogany Grille)

We’re Having A Party… Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ: Monday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Posted by: Roxy - Print This Post Print This Post

For most of the past twelve summers, Rex and I have made an annual tradition of seeing Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes at Martell’s Tiki Bar in Pt. Pleasant Beach, New Jersey.

We had some portion of the Jukes and La Bamba’s Big Band at our wedding on the beach in September 1998 and at Rex’s 60th birthday party at our house in Mendham a few years ago.

While London and Maddie had the good fortune to see their first concert (Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Tour at the Prudential Center in Newark NJ in December 2007) before they turned seven, my first concert was Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes at Somerset County College (now Raritan Valley Community College) in 1978, when I was twelve years old.  Having learned proper groupie decorum from late night network TV (who remembers Midnight Special and Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert??), I jumped the stage and grabbed onto bass player Gene Boccia’s leg.  20 years later, not a jealous guy, Rex “looked the other way” and allowed Gene to perform at our wedding reception.  However, not a foolish guy, he requested an alternate for the Juke I dated for a few months in my late 20’s.

Assuming we can find a babysitter on Tuesday night, September 1st, Rex and I will head out to Theresa’s South on Mount Street in Bay Head, NJ, for dinner with some friends, then off to the Tiki Bar!

Halloween Fun at Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey

Avast me hearties! Be on the look out for our own Jersey Shore pirates — Captain Kidd, Blackbeard, and Captain Morgan, too. They have been sighted on our shores pillagin’ and plunderin’ and buryin’ their treasure along the coast. Tis never been found to this day. Follow yer clues and ye might be the lucky one to find their loot.

On October 10th, 11th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th, Jenkinson’s Aquarium is going A-Scare-ium from 6:00pm to 9:00pm to celebrate Halloween.  Follow maps and clues to find a trick-or-treat treasure. $6 per person, NOT included with the Aquarium Day Time Admission.

22nd of August, Pt. Pleasant Beach, New Jersey

Sandy, the fireworks are hailin’ over Little Eden tonight
Forcin’ a light into all those stony faces left stranded on this warm July
Down in town the circuit’s full of switchblade lovers, so fast, so shiny, so sharp
As the wizards play down on Pinball Way on the boardwalk way past dark
And the boys from the casino dance with their shirts open like Latin lovers on the shore
Chasin’ all them silly New York virgins by the score

Sandy, the aurora is risin’ behind us
Those pier lights, our carnival life forever
Oh, love me tonight, for I may never see you again
Hey, Sandy girl… my baby

Now the greasers, they tramp the streets or get busted for sleepin’ on the beach all night
Them boys in their high heels, ah Sandy, their skins are so white
And me, I just got tired of hangin’ in them dusty arcades, bangin’ them pleasure machines
Chasin’ the factory girls underneath the boardwalk, where they all promised to unsnap their jeans
And you know that Tilt-a-Whirl down on the south beach drag? I got on it last night and my shirt got caught
And it kept me spinnin’, they didn’t think I’d ever get off

Sandy, the aurora is risin’ behind us
Those pier lights, our carnival life on the water
Runnin’, laughin’ underneath the boardwalk with the boss’s daughter
I remember, Sandy girl… my baby

Sandy, the waitress I was seein’ lost her desire for me
I spoke with her last night, she said she won’t set herself on fire for me anymore
She worked that joint under the boardwalk, she was always the girl you saw boppin’ down the beach with the radio
Kids say last night she was dressed like a star in one of the cheap little seaside bars, and I saw her parked with her lover boy out on the Kokomo
Did you hear, the cops finally busted Madame Marie for tellin’ fortunes better than they do?
For me this carnival life’s through– you ought to quit this scene too

Sandy, the aurora is risin’ behind us
Those pier lights, our carnival life forever
Oh, love me tonight and I promise I’ll love you forever
Oh, I mean it, Sandy girl
